Resistive Touch Screen
Infrared Touch Screen
Precision and Durability with Invisible Technology
Overview
Infrared touch screens have infrared emitting tubes and receiving tubes arranged on the four sides of the screen frame, corresponding to each other to form a horizontal and vertical infrared matrix. When we touch a certain point on the screen with our finger, it will block the two horizontal and vertical infrared rays passing through that position, and the central processor will calculate the position of the touch point. It is mainly composed of infrared emitting and receiving sensing elements installed on the outer frame of the touch screen.

Working Principle
Transmit Infrared Rays
Infrared touch screens emit a beam of infrared light to form an infrared grid. This grid can be horizontal, vertical, or angled, depending on the design of the touch screen.
Receiving Infrared Rays
There are multiple infrared receivers on the touch screen, which are located on the border of the screen. When the infrared light is touched or blocked by the touch object, the infrared light in some areas will be blocked.
Detection of Obstruction
If the infrared light is blocked by the touched object, the infrared receiver will receive less infrared signal, thus triggering a touch event.
Position Calculation
By calculating the position of the infrared signal blocked by the touched object, the touch position coordinates can be determined. The touch screen controller analyzes the received infrared signal and converts it into a specific touch position on the screen.
Advantage
The effect is very good when used on flat-panel displays. Infrared technology touch screens use infrared emitting tubes and infrared receiving tubes of the same wavelength distributed on the same plane to obtain monitoring results, so the advantages of using them on flat-panel displays such as LCDs are amazing.
Good use characteristics. The touch force is very light, and there is no special requirement for the touch body. Human fingers or any object that blocks infrared light can be used as the touch body.
High adaptability. It is not affected by current, voltage, static electricity, etc., can effectively prevent explosion and dust, and has strong adaptability in harsh environmental conditions.
High stability. It will not drift due to changes in time, location and environment.
Long service life. It is durable and scratch-resistant, and the touch screen can work normally for a long time.

Shortcoming
The effect is not good when used on spherical display screens. Because the infrared touch screen requires the infrared grating matrix to be on the same plane, when the actual sensing touch working plane is far away from the curved display screen, especially at the corners, the accuracy and sensitivity of the infrared touch screen will be low.
Susceptible to strong infrared interference, such as remote controls, high-temperature objects, incandescent lamps, sunlight, etc.
Susceptible to interference from strong electromagnetic objects, such as transformers.

Infrared touch screens: a bygone technology or a future that still exists?
With the continuous advancement of science and technology, we have witnessed the rapid development of touch screen technology. Among them, infrared touch screen, as one of the pioneers, does it still have a place in today’s market? This is a question worth pondering.
Infrared touch screens are famous for their strong anti-interference ability, high durability and fast response speed. It uses infrared technology to detect finger touch, has little interference with ambient light, and is suitable for various environments, especially in outdoor and industrial control fields. However, with the rise of capacitive touch screens, infrared touch screens seem to have gradually lost market share. Capacitive touch screens have advantages such as better user experience and support for multi-touch. They have been widely used in consumer electronic products such as smartphones and tablets, and have gradually become mainstream.
However, we cannot assume that infrared touch screens are destined to be eliminated. In fact, in some special application scenarios, infrared touch screens still have unique advantages. For example, in the fields of outdoor display screens, industrial control equipment, etc., infrared touch screens are still an indispensable choice because their anti-interference ability and durability can better adapt to harsh environmental conditions.
Therefore, although infrared touch screens may no longer be as prominent as before in market share, they will not disappear easily. In the field where it is suitable, infrared touch screens will continue to play an important role. In the future, with the continuous development of technology and changes in market demand, we may see infrared touch screens radiate new vitality.
